Our Work
Promise International helps support five facilities in Uganda, with our primary focus on providing safe, loving homes and a quality education for Uganda's orphans and other needy children. However, we strive to do far more than supply the basics of food, shelter and clothing. We seek to develop the next generation of Ugandan community leadership by equipping these disadvantaged young people with a faith in God, a solid education, vocational skills and the tools to become self-supporting, contributing members of society.
To do this, we have developed a model of support that is efficient, accountable and scalable: one that prepares Uganda's most vulnerable, at-risk children to thrive and ultimately transform their country as its future leaders. This model applies best practices and leverages the skills of knowledgeable specialists across all Promise International facilities for maximum impact. These experts are responsible for leading five fundamental, streamlined programs that will enable our facilities - and their graduates - to become self-sustaining.

Achievements to Date
- Since its founding in 1994, Promise International has raised over $250,000 to assist needy children in Africa, primarily in Uganda.
- A full 95 percent of funds raised have gone directly to services that improve the children's lives.
- During the last 15 years, we have grown from supporting 18 children to more than 400 now under the direct care of Promise International and its affiliate organizations.
- Since initiating our association with the Bweya Children's Home in 1994, approximately 100 of the children who lived at Bweya Children's Home have completed high school and gone to vocational training institutes.
- Four of the motivated, bright residents at Bweya have graduated from college and become upstanding members of Uganda civic society.
- In 1997, Kihonge Primary School was established with the sponsorship of Promise International. Currently it serves 253 students, including 27 orphaned children.
- In 1997, we helped to support the launch of the Kihonge Community Center, which also serves adult members of the community with literacy classes and a microfinance program.
- In 2001, Promise International laid the foundation for its Surrogate Parent program by enabling Prossy Nabagesera, a single mother, to build a brick house accommodating her family and three orphaned children.
- In 2005, Promise International teamed up with a dedicated group from Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, to establish Gateway Mercy Ministries in Natete, near Kampala, Uganda. Together, we support an orphanage and school now serving 51 children.
Volunteer Accomplishments
Dedicated volunteers have shared their loving-kindness, time and talents during mission trips to Promise International-supported facilities:
- In 1997, former board member Katherine Lunde made her first visit to Bweya Children's Home. She also established a connection with and helped launch the Kihonge Primary School.
- In 2000, founders Israel and Lydia Mwesigwa repaired the water supply system and made other improvements to the Bweya Children's home.
- In 2001, volunteer Peter Mukasa-Magoye renovated the children's dormitories at the Bweya Children's Home.
- In 2006, Promise International founder Israel Mwesigwa surveyed all the supported facilities and conducted a needs assessment for the Gateway Mercy Ministries orphanage facility near Kampala.
- In 2007, board member Lisa Erwin visited Uganda to see firsthand work on the ground at Promise International-supported facilities, as well as the efforts of governmental and nongovernmental organizations.
- In 2008, a group from Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas visited the Gateway Mercy Ministries facility at Natete near Kampala, Uganda. It also toured the other Promise International-sponsored projects in Uganda.
We commend all volunteers for their accomplishments over the years. However, Promise International desperately needs your help today.
Please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference.
