Our Facilities – Bweya Children's Home
About Bweya Children's Home
The first project and Uganda orphanage supported by Promise International, the Bweya Children's Home (BCH) is located eight miles from the capital city of Kampala in the village of Bweya. It was founded in 1968, by Mr. Christopher and Mrs. Irene Mukasa. Although Mrs. Mukasa recently passed to be with our Lord, Mr. Mukasa continues to direct its operations, along with the help of Moses Ssebaggala, the homes administrator, and Darcy Burbank, a missionary from Canada. Most of the children it serves are destitute, victims of continuous civil strife, and orphaned as a result of the AIDS epidemic.
They are in dire need of food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. BCH is dedicated to providing a quality life ,and hope, to numerous disadvantaged children This orphanage currently serves as home to 65 children, ages 1 to 18. The Mukasa's have provided a true home to the abandoned girls and boys who have entered its doors. From humble beginnings, they have unselfishly and tirelessly cared for these needy children, most of whom have known
no other parents.

The Bweya Childrens Home lacks sufficient funds to offer anything beyond basic food and shelter for its residents. Contributions are desperately needed to provide nutrition for healthy development and more suitable housing for these precious children.
How Promise International Helps:
With partial support from Promise International since 1997, we have helped to support the Home by helping to increase the number of orphans it serves, upgrade its facilities, acquire land, and provide playground equipment. However, the buildings are in dire need of repairs, furniture, and bedding.

Financial support is needed to:
- Provide Vitamins to every child : $40/year/child
- Basic medical supplies: body creams, soap, antiseptic creams, mosquito spray, bandages, sanitary products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.
- Mosquito nets for beds: $10.00 per net
- Renovate the 1960s dormitories that are falling into disrepair -to include new bedding … estimated cost of $30,000
- Secure the compound with a fenced enclosure - for protection of the children… estimated cost of $5,000
- Establish an Agricultural Nursery Planting Program as a means of generating income to support the home - estimated cost of $15,000
Promise International is eligible to accept gifts from your estate plan.
